The Open
The CrossFit Games Open starts this week!
I would highly suggest that everyone sign up for the Open. Know I know what you’re going to say to me…
What if I can’t do the movements?
I don’t think I’m good enough for the open yet.
I don’t want to compete.
I’ll just get ready for next year’s Open.
Sound familiar?
Well here’s why I think you should do the Open. The CrossFit Open is the first step in finding the fittest in the world to go to regionals and then the games, right? Sure, you’re right, it is the first step in that process. But if that were ALL it was, then why would over 200,000 athletes sign up for it? They probably were asking their coaches those questions above too! My favorite comparison is that the Open is like signing up for a 5K run. Why do we sign up to run those? To go have some fun with friends, push a little harder on the run than you normally would, and to test yourself and your current running level. The Open is the same type of thing, except you get to test your CrossFit! Even if you know you can’t do some of the movements, this is your chance to try, set a new PR, find some strengths and weaknesses, andΒ set some new goals for the coming year. For the next 5 weeks we get to join the rest of the world in doing the same workout, be accountable to a judge, and have some fun with our friends. So let’s do this together! We’re going to do the workouts on Friday’s anyway π And bonus! There is now a scaled division, teen division, plus the ones they had last year for masters and RX!
