Getting to know the CFA Coaches – David Wood Edition
David! Tell us all about yourself!
How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you find out about it?
I have been doing Crossfit for close to 2 years now. I first heard about it on my mission in Destin, Florida. My friend told me I would love this “insane workout” place. Once I got married, I met Kendl (she’s my wife’s sister-in-law) and it just looked fun. I love being fit and wanted to do something that pushed me to the limit and made me constantly be uncomfortable. It was a perfect fit.
Tell us about a typical day in the life of David
I usually wake up, put in my contacts, pee, take my dog out to pee,… I’m just kidding.
I have school/ homework/ research from 7:30 – 3, hangout with my wife until I go to the gym to workout or coach at 4. Then it’s back to homework or house chores until bedtime. Ain’t no rest for college students.
What’s your favorite workout and your choice of music that would go with it?
I like heavy workouts with heavy music. JJ or Holleyman with some medium tempo viking metal sounds amazing right now. It’s a beard thing I guess.
What is your favorite cheat meal?
Pie. Lemon Merengue or Key Lime
What is a future goal of yours?
I want to earn my PhD in mechanical engineering and become a professor so I can research advanced medical devices and smart prosthesis. Also make it to the Games once. I guess that one was a given.
Tell us some of your recent accomplishments!
Here’s 3: I just made a 200# Snatch, I just submitted my first academic research paper to be published in a peer-reviewed journal, and I also found out that I am one of the top 25 in the senior class of the entire engineering college at USU.
What is the #1 most played song on your iPod?
Right now it’s Demon Kitty Rag by Katzenjammer. It’s like “dim-lit smoky bar” folk music but still upbeat.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of the gym?
It’s a toss up between fly fishing and playing the piano. They’re both so relaxing.
