Athlete of the Month – Lacie Jensen
Lacie! Tell us all of your secrets!
How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you find out about it?
I started doing Crossfit last May. I was a little nervous being 6 months pregnant but I instantly fell in love with the workouts and the people. I heard about it from my best friends Gentry, Mindi and Brady.
Tell us about a typical day in the life of Lacie!
A typical day for me is waking up to my 4 kids. Getting them off to school, Working out. Then at 4 o’clock Im a taxi driver: 3 kids in soccer, baseball, dance, tumbling, gymnastics, tennis….. It’s crazy and loud at our home and I love it.
What is your go to cheat meal?
My favorite cheat meal or treat is donuts. I’m obsessed with Johnny O’s. I take my kids every Saturday.
What is your favorite workout (or movement) and your choice of music to go with it?
My favorite workouts involve squatting; wall balls, back squats, front squats. And I really like deadlifts. My lower body is way stronger then the rest.
I like a variety of music when I workout. Anything from 80’s Rock to TSwift. However when I run I like to listen to Kid Rock. I don’t know why but I do.
What is your biggest phobia?
My biggest phobia is snakes. I freaking hate them!!!! They give me nightmares.
What is a future goal of yours?
My goal is to do pull ups. I’ve been working on those dang things and can’t get them without help from a band. They stress me out. Whenever I pull up the workout the night before and see them, I get mad knowing I won’t RX. Hopefully I can learn to do them before I’m in a nursing home.
Tell us about one of your favorite memories
One of my most favorite memories is when we took our kids to Disneyland a few years ago. My oldest was 6 and my twins were 4. I made everyone go on Tower of Terror (even my husband who hates rides). I think they all about peed their pants. Every time I look at the picture they took on the ride I bust up laughing. I went from being the best mom ever to the worst.
If you could tame one wild animal to be your companion, what would you choose and why?
If I could tame a wild animal it would be a Cheetah. I love how fast they are, something I’m not. I could just hop on and catch a ride.
What was it like doing CrossFit while you were pregnant? How was the recovery and getting back to it after he was born?
I have always been pretty active, even when I was younger. But I’ve never worked out while being pregnant until my fourth baby. I could tell a huge difference. I had way more energy throughout the day and I just felt good all around. I still gained a ton of weight with this baby, It’s too embarrassing to say how much. I tried not to focus on the baby weight because I was still staying active and feeling really good (I just couldn’t stop eating bacon cheeseburgers).
I had a really long delivery with this baby. He just wouldn’t drop. My doctor told me the only way this baby was coming is if my water breaks, my fluids were pretty high. So every time I went to Crossfit I just figured I had nothing to worry about unless the floor suddenly gets wet. Lol
I was really surprised how quickly I bounced back. After my little boy was born I was ready to get back in the gym after two weeks (my husband made me rest and was worried I would push myself too fast). I came back 4 weeks later and it amazed me how quickly I was able to get back into a routine. I still had to take it easy, I thought I would never be able to do a box jump again. Hahaha but eventually I did. One thing I remember about coming back is how good it felt to run. I wasn’t able to run while pregnant because I would cramp really bad. I was so dang sick of rowing. I kind of hated that thing for a while.
Even being up with a newborn I still felt better then I did with my previous babies.
One thing that was really nice is when I got too big to do a lot of movements I could just modify and I still got a really good workout in. I would lower my weights if something was bothering me. I think the key is just listening to your body. Every pregnancy is different so I found it important to do what felt best for me. I’m so grateful I came to Crossfit. I love everyone there. They cheer me on, challenge me, and make me excited to go and get my butt kicked. They’re like family.
Thanks for sharing with us Lacie! Your drive and positive attitude is contagious and we’re so happy to have you at CFA!!
