Let’s talk scaling your weight and modifying your movements for a second. These two terms seem to have a negative connotation associated with them. However, in a gym that is all about functional fitness, we couldn’t emphasize enough that we not only recommend these, but we ENCOURAGE them. The “RX” on the board is to give us a guideline as to the stimulus of the workout. It does NOT mean that you have to do that weight (or even the full rep scheme) in order to get a great workout. Most of us do have to change something to make sure we keep the desired intention of the workout. It does not mean we are failing in any way.
Do you have a movement that causes you pain? Please talk to your coach and we will modify the movement to get the same stimulus. Pushing through the physical pain will cause you even more pain down the road. Likewise, if the weight on the bar, or the medicine ball, or whatever it may be is prohibiting you from full range of motion, please take weight off until you are able to perform the movement through the full range of motion. When a coach asks you to change your weights or change the movement, it’s not a personal attack. Build the foundation and I PROMISE you, you will get stronger.
We want every single one of you to get stronger, with excellent form, and to remain pain free! Now, let’s make this a great week!
